Systune vs Mole
Keep the terminal. Add a configuration workflow.
Which should you choose?
Choose Systune’s planned workflow for its combination of reviewed cleanup, 92 security checks and 300 settings with snapshots across Mac and terminal interfaces. Choose Mole’s CLI for a free, inspectable terminal toolkit available now. Mole also has a separate native Mac app; it is not terminal-only.
The comparison at a glance
For terminal users comparing a shared configuration workflow with a free open-source cleanup toolkit.
Swipe the table to compare both apps.
| What matters | Systune | Mole |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Pre-launch Mac app, CLI and TUI. | Free open-source CLI available now; separate native Mac app. [1][2] |
| Cleanup and disk use | 103 risk-labelled cleanup categories and visual disk exploration. | CLI cleanup, uninstaller, maintenance, disk analyzer and live status tools. [1] |
| Review and safety | Selected items are previewed before confirmation; history records results. | Documents dry-run commands, protected-path rules and an operations log. [1] |
| Configuration focus | 92 security/privacy checks and 300 settings with snapshots. | The cited CLI documentation describes cleanup, optimization and monitoring. [1] |
| Source and price | Closed-source implementation; planned US$39 direct license for three Macs. | CLI source is public under GPL-3.0; native app terms are separate. [1][2] |
Why choose Systune’s approach?
Systune brings cleanup and configuration review together. The same core defines its Mac, CLI and TUI workflows, including risk-labelled cleanup categories, security checks and settings snapshots. That is useful when you want to move between an interface and structured terminal output without changing the underlying definitions.
Its audit makes configuration findings explicit and separates unreadable checks from passes. Tune groups 300 macOS preferences and saves the old values before applying changes. Systune’s advantage for this audience is the combination of those jobs with reviewed cleanup, rather than the existence of a terminal interface alone.
Where Mole is ahead
Mole’s CLI is free and its GPL-3.0 source is publicly inspectable. It is available today. Those are real price, transparency and availability advantages over Systune’s current closed-source, pre-launch implementation. [1]
Mole also provides a separate native Mac app. Evaluate that edition on its own features and commercial terms; the free CLI’s license and feature set should not be silently transferred to the app. [1][2]
Compare actual safety controls
It would be inaccurate to imply that only Systune offers previews or a cleanup record. Mole documents dry-run commands, protected paths and an operations log. Read those controls and the action’s removal behavior before deciding what to run. [1]
For either tool, review the exact files, preserve data shared with another application and use backups. A log explains an operation; it does not recreate permanently removed bytes. We have not performed a comparative deletion-safety or performance benchmark.
Systune’s review log is available on request. Public, reproducible safety documentation is being planned; we will update this comparison when that evidence is published.
